About The WALL
What is The WALL?
The WALL is a changing space for work by Kearnsy, an Australian contemporary artist based in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia.
The WALL sits alongside, rather than inside, Kearny’s main practice.
Each WALL starts with an idea. It is a place for experiments and bodies of work that don't necessarily need to belong anywhere else.
Sometimes new. Sometimes pulled from the stockroom. Sometimes serious. Sometimes not. Sometimes Kearnsy chooses what goes up. Sometimes someone else might.
The WALL stays – what’s on it doesn’t. What goes up, must come down.
Why a wall?
Before galleries existed, there were walls.
A wall has always been a place to put things. Paintings, posters, messages, protest, memories. A temporary space for human expression.
Things get hung. Things get covered. Things come down.
A wall is never really blank. Paint goes over paint. Posters go over posters. Graffiti gets covered by graffiti. Wallpaper is stripped away. Pictures leave hooks and faded rectangles. Strip a wall back and you might discover something that was there before.
Every wall has two sides.
Across history, walls have been canvases and storytellers. Some kept people in. Some kept people out. Some protected. Some divided. Some protested. Some came down.
Great Wall. Berlin Wall. Wall Street. Wonderwall.
This is just a WALL.
